Eastwood plays down Oscar rivalry with Scorsese

BERLIN (Reuters) - Hollywood veteran Clint Eastwood said on Sunday his Oscar rival Martin Scorsese had a good chance of finally winning a statuette in two weeks' time, but warned against narrowing the field to a two-horse race.

The 76-year-old, in Berlin for the European premiere of his film "Letters From Iwo Jima," walked away with the best director Oscar two years ago for "Million Dollar Baby," leaving seven-time nominee Scorsese empty-handed once again.

This year Eastwood is on the shortlist again for World War Two drama "Letters From Iwo Jima" while Scorsese has been nominated for "The Departed."

Rounding off the best director category for the February 25 ceremony are Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu ("Babel"), Stephen Frears ("The Queen") and Paul Greengrass ("United 93").

Mayor Mike to City Moms: Suckle This

The man who doesn't want you to smoke in City bars or clog your coronaries with sweet, sweet trans fats now wants to do something healthy for the tiniest and newest New Yorkers. Mayor Mike Bloomberg is dropping more than $2 million on a campaign to get City run hospitals to encourage new moms to breast feed. City health commissioner, Thomas Frieden, wants babies to dine on nothing but their mothers' breast milk for the first six months of life. Right now, about 75% of New York mommies breast feed their babies but nearly 40% stop before the six month mark.

The benefits of breast feeding have been known for a while. Some include decreasing a baby's risk of obesity, asthma, diabetes, leukemia, or lymphoma. Breast milk also protects against infection with maternal antibodies and helps build a stronger mommy-baby bond.

Metro design finalised

Dubai: The interior design of train compartments for Dubai Metro is based on water and air theme. Each train will have five compartments, said a senior official.

"The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has finalised the interior design of trains - which will be built in Japan - to be used for Dubai Metro," said Abdul Redha Abu Al Hassan, Director of Planning and Design of Dubai Metro at the RTA.

The manufacturing of trains will start this month in Japan and the first train will reach Dubai by March 2008.

"Initially, we will receive 44 trains for the Red Line which will be complete by September 2009. A total of 87 trains, including 62 for the Red Line and 25 for the Green Line, will be used for the Metro," said Al Hassan. .

Sustainable Zoning: A New Imperative

I work in a Gold certified LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) "green" building. We at the law school are so excited and proud about this that we mention it in our promotional brochures, announce it on our web site, give tours, and generally position it as a selling point for the school. We have non-toxic carpet, recycled materials, windows that actually open, waterless urinals, automatic lighting that turns off when you leave the room (most of the time, anyways), and a 40% savings in energy used for heating and cooling. We are comforted that we have done our part in saving the planet.

But there's what we might call an inconvenient truth that everyone seems to ignore: the five story parking garage that is as large as the law school itself and filled with trucks, SUVs and fancy sedans.
