Living Well: Health and Wellness Tips

These can include such things as curfews, discussions about the appropriate age for dating, and clearly communicating family values about abstinence. Sherwood-Puzzello said parents need to be clear about consequences if the expectations are not met. She said parents need to start talking about their expectations and limitations when their children are very young. Young children challenge family rules on a daily basis just to test their parents and to determine whether the rules have changed -- this "challenge" continues into the teen years.

Father arrested in death of baby

APPLE VALLEY — A man was arrested on suspicion of killing his 5-week-old baby daughter by way of “blunt force trauma," officials said.

Around 1:40 a.m. Saturday Apple Valley sheriff's officials were called to a home in the 15800 block of Sago Road for a child that was unres p o n s ive a n d unconscious, according to a statement by Sgt. Tom Bradford of the Homicide Detail.

When authorities arrived, however, Kenneth Brown, 19, and the child's mother were already on their way to the hospital with Unique Marcia Brown. They were met by paramedics on Zuni Road, not far from the home, said Cindy Beavers, spokeswoman for the sheriff's station.

“It doesn't say in the call whether or not the baby was breathing at the time the 9-1-1 call came in, but they were immediately transferred to medical aid.
