Bashing Baby Killers by Harold C. Hutchison February 10, 2007

A report on NBC Nightly News has touched off a bit of controversy in the blogosphere. In the initial NBC report, several troops expressed their frustration about opponents of the efforts in Iraq who claim to support the troops, but don't support the mission. One media response to this came from William Arkin, who decried the troops' comments, hoped they had been counseled, raised the specter of a military coup, and then referred to them as mercenaries. The response to the Arkin comments in the milblogging community has been fierce, with big blogs like OPFOR, Blackfive, and others returning fire.

Arkin's comments are just the latest shot taken at the volunteer army by the anti-war movement. This past November, Senator John Kerry got into trouble by implying a lack of intelligence among the troops and the notion that many of the recruits are poor.

Anna Nicole Smith's companion, daughter staying at disputed Bahamas mansion

NASSAU, Bahamas Anna Nicole Smith's lawyer says the former playmate's infant daughter and the baby's purported father have reclaimed the Bahamas mansion where they lived before Smith died.

The ownership of the home is in dispute.

Smith had claimed that a former boyfriend, U-S developer Ben Thompson, gave her the house. He says the house was only on loan, and he had the locks changed after Smith's death last week.

But Smith's lawyer says Howard K. Stern, one of the three men who claim to be the baby's father, is again at the home.

Attorney Wayne Munroe tells The Associated Press that the baby girl is also there. An A-P Television News reporter also saw Smith's mother enter the house.

Munroe says the house now belongs to Stern.
