Enjoy picturesque and enchanting residential areas on the Newton Year-Round Walk, Jan. 7-Dec. 16. A six- or 10-kilometer (3.7 or 6.2 mile) walk route is available. Both routes pass historic homes, Crystal Lake and Newton Highlands. The 10 kilometer walk contiues through the village of Waban. The starting point is the Newton Free Library, 330 Homer St. The walk box can be found on the table in the main lobby. The walk is rated moderately easy suitable for strollers but not for wheelchairs.The walk is sponsored by Walk-'n-Mass Volksport Club. Volksporting events promote fun, fitness and fellowship by providing non-competitive walking and other sporting events free to the public. Volksporting also offers an achievements award program. Father acquitted in baby's overdose death faces federal charges

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (AP) _ A 21-year-old man acquitted by a state jury of killing his baby with an overdose of morphine now faces federal drug charges.

Corbin H. Douglas Sr., of Morris, was charged in a 10-count indictment unsealed Tuesday in U.S. District Court. Prosecutors said Douglas _ who was accused of causing the February 2005 death of his 14-month-old son, Corbin Jr. _ distributed both morphine and hydromorphone, an enhanced form of the drug.

Gumbo competition // The Chesapeake Chefs Association will host the eighth annual Chefs Signature Gumbo Competition from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Annapolis Marriott Waterfront Hotel, 80 Compromise St. This event will feature more than 20 regional chefs preparing gumbo, Mardi Gras beads and live music by Cazhmiere. Valentine's tea // Historic London Town and Gardens will host a Valentine's Tea in the Pavilion, featuring East-West Tea Emporium and a concert by the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra.
