KETCHUM - Cantor Ida Rae Cahana will be the guest at the Wood River Jewish Community's Sabbath worship at 6 p.m. Friday at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Sun Valley.The public is welcome to attend.Cahana served as senior cantor for Central Synagogue in New York City from 2002 to 2006, and has also been cantor and scholar-in-residence for synagogues throughout the United States. She is a recognized soloist in light opera, musical theater and oratorio.A graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University, Cahana earned cantorial investiture and a master's degree in sacred music from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and holds a master's degree from New England Conservatory of Music. She has appeared on Broadway and at New York's Lincoln Center.Cahana is a soprano soloist on Transcontinental Music's five CD set of high holiday music, "Yamin Noraim," and her work is included on Milken Foundation's Archive of American Jewish Music recordings, and the "American Conference of Cantors at 50, a Celebration CD." Final `Harry Potter' Book to Be Published July 21 (Update5)
Feb. 1 (Bloomberg) -- ``Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,'' the seventh and final book in J.K. Rowling's best- selling series about the schoolboy wizard, will be released July 21, the book's publishers said. Bloomsbury Publishing Plc will produce a children's hardback edition, an adult hardback version and a gift edition, the London-based company said today in a statement. Scholastic Corp., Rowling's New York-based publisher, said the U.S. hardback edition will be priced at $34.99. The book reached the top of online bookseller Amazon.com Inc.'s U.K. best-seller list eight hours after Rowling announced the title in a puzzle on her Web site on Dec. 21. All six previous books have been No. 1 best-sellers, spawning movies, audio books and computer games. ``Not only will this be the biggest selling book, it will also break all records to become the fastest selling book of all time,'' Wayne Winston, a spokesman for U.K.

Husband takes stand in car wash civil trial
TOWN 'N COUNTRY - A car wash is on trial in connection with the death of a mother who pushed her baby stroller out of the path of an oncoming SUV, which then struck and killed her. Today's testimony marked one of the final and most emotional moments of the trial as the husband of Brenda Brown took the stand in the civil trial. When Mac Brown was sworn in, the self-made man struggled to keep from breaking down as he spoke lovingly of his wife, Brenda. She pushed the stroller of their son, Darnell, who was 1 and a half at the time, out of the path of the oncoming vehicle. It was the final selfless act that left her dead mother's day weekend 2005. McNeil Brown says, "The reason he is the kid he is, is the way she poured herself into him. And the reason I am the way I am with him, is because I watched it, I learned it.
