Chilly temperatures didnt stop hundreds of Texas runners from participating in the Childrens Advocacy Center of Comal Countys first Valentines Day 5K Run/Walk fundraiser Saturday morning.
Were really impressed with the turn out, said Trendy Sharp, executive director of the center, who arrived at the race site at 4:30 a.m. We had a lot of great sponsors and ended up with more than $1,500 in raffle prizes.

Library patrons get an assist with door
Getting in and out of the Howell Carnegie District Library is now as easy as pushing a button. The library's historic wood doors are beautiful, but heavy. If you have your hands full of books, are pushing a stroller or have a difficult time opening doors for any reason, now you can press a button and the front door will open automatically. .
Sebree seeking sidewalk grant
Plans to construct a sidewalk along the west side of U.S. Hwy. 41, starting near the highways intersection with Ky. Hwy. 56 and ending past the former site of Pollys Restaurant in Sebree are underway, city officials told The J-E this week. The sidewalk, if constructed, would offer local residents a walking path to the business sector of Sebree, including the local grocery and convenience stores. Sebree Mayor Ron Todd said the need for a sidewalk stems from concern for pedestrians safety. We have people walking to the Dollar Store and IGA, Todd said. Some of them are pushing strollers; others are riding bicycles. Its very unsafe. Todd said that Sebree has many people that tend to walk to businesses on that side of town. The city is working with the Green River Area Development District to seek matching funds for the project.
Lake Eola: Orlando's heart for all times
One of the nice things about living near Lake Eola is that on a sunny weekend day, when the weather is fine and the windows are open, happy sounds float in on the breeze.
They're the sounds of children giggling and laughing and whooping it up generally at the park's playground, long a magnet for stroller-pushing moms and dads and their charges.
