What do you do for fun? I enjoy spending time with my husband and kids and visiting my sister, who attends the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Good book recommendation: If I am able to take a spare moment, I usually read self-help books on event marketing and public relations or the Chamber Executive magazine. Something you cant live without: Family and my Motorola Q phone/PDA. What would you do if you won the jackpot? I would build a gated community for my family. Something surprising about you: I originally went to school to be a news anchor. Best advice: If youre going to go after something, give it your all. Giving 99.9 percent effort is the same as giving nothing at all. Worst advice: My cousin, Michelle, advised me that its OK to eat anything you want while pregnant.

They have names like “Kitten Fister" and “Paper Machetes." These names adorn brightly colored advertisements splattered on light poles and the side of buildings. These names suggest — rather, demand — that we not only pay attention, but also worship, the deities behind the names with reverence and admiration. Cartoon Violence Destroys The Treasured Myths Upon Which Your ...
Cartoons are an undeniably great way to transmit concentrated bursts of information and making them stick the minds of the simple reader. Unfortunately, only the cartoonist's code of ethics prevents him or her from using that power to spread truth instead of lies. Do you think the Soviet Union stayed afloat for seventy years because its populace was familiar with and supportive of Marx's economic theories? No, it was all the socialist realist art with ruddy-cheeked peasants harvesting grain under the beneficient gaze of Uncle Stalin! Similiarly, many of us who grew up watching Warner Brothers cartoons believed that rabbits travel rapidly across the country by digging tunnels just under the Earth's surface, and sometimes dressed in drag and kissed men, only to find out in college biology class that none of that was considered accurate by scientists.
Mardi Gras parades make Shreveport a carnival destination
When it comes to parades, Shreveport no longer plays second fiddle to New Orleans. Northwest Louisiana instead has taken a more family-friendly approach and, in doing so, has become a destination for those seeking a Mardi Gras experience. "Every year before the parade starts, people come walking by the floats and we meet people from all over," Judy French, publicity chairwoman for the Krewe of Gemini, said. "I've met people from Wisconsin, Michigan, California. People are hearing about Mardi Gras in northwest Louisiana. A lot of people have never heard of Shreveport before and it's a new place they can come and experience." Combining crowds from the two main Mardi Gras weekends this weekend and next a range of 296,000 to 828,000 people will attend local parades, according to a study done in 2001 by the Center for Business and Economic Research at LSUS.
